    Ext, shot of buildings and sign for "West of Scotland Agricultural College", ..a tractor drives past farm buildings. Various grey buildings and accommodation belonging to the college. Two female staff members enter the "Department of Plant Pathology". Three women in white lab coats sit around a busy lab table, the surrounding cupboards are full of bottles. One woman carries two sample containers that she is shaking, another looks through a microscope. She adds water to the sample, shakes it again and then pours some of the liquid into a paper filter to collect samples of Eelworm cysts. More vigorous shaking.
    The tiny eelworm cysts are then removes from the sample and placed onto a glass slide and viewed under a microscope. Shot of enlarged cyst. Shot of technician looking through microscope. CU of the cysts being carefully cut in half and again examined under the microscope. More shots of activities in the laboratory, shaking flasks, viewing specimens, etc.
    Mercury compound is weighed on scales (Mercury oxide) this is to be mixed with "dust" to ensure easy mixing with soil later. The mixture of the dust is then added to mounds of soil outside, and then potted, and put into a greenhouse. Other pots of soil without the mercury compound are also placed in the greenhouse. Potato tubers are then planted into the two soil containers for comparison. Shots the lab technicians planting the potatoes.
    Outside the greenhouse the gardeners continue to mix the mercury with soil at different strengths. The pots are labelled and lined up in the greenhouse. More potatoes are planted. Later the grown potatoes are removed from their pots and examined. Shots of hands examining the roots with a magnifying glass and taking samples and weighing them.
    Ext. sign "Radio - Active Enclosure Do Not Enter" technicians working outside on radio active Iodine. A man with a geiger counter tests the soil and a female technician sits nearby collating the readings. CU of the geiger counter and dial readings.
    A 35hp Nuffield 3 tractor with a rotary hoe cultivator on the back ploughs a field and spreads the "dust". Details of rotavator and the method of mixing the dust. CU of the machine in action. Scientists and technicians dig up potatoes and check the results, the treated soil produced healthy looking potatoes. Weighing the potatoes, writing the results, and back in the lab. A tractor drives away, super "Todays Farming is Nuffield Farming".
