  • "Location of events unknown. 1927 (?)" - the clip has two locations, Paris, and then later Ver-sur-Mer in Normandy. The year is indeed 1927.

What we are seeing here is a reception in Paris for Richard Byrd and his crew following their successful trans-Atlantic flight from America, taking from 29 June to 1 July 1927.

"Byrd and others appear on balconies" - the first man we see with Byrd is the bespectacled figure of George Noville. A few seconds later, Bernt Balchen appears.

"Next; small crowd gathered round an old-looking aeroplane which may have wrecked?" - this is the wreckage of their aircraft, the "America", which they'd been forced to ditch several hundred yard off-shore.
