    Climbing The Greasy Pole.

First World War political cartoon drawn by British (?) artist Frank Holland - the film is actually a long CU of the cartoon in progress (speeded up footage); with the artist's hand drawing a depiction of Kaiser Wilhelm II climbing a greased pole; the top of which says 'World Power'; while a large sun labelled 'Allies' shines down upon him.

The top of the pole has a joint of meat (?) on it - that is where the dripping is coming from. Frank writes in words at the bottom - 'As Bill climbs hard with hungry eyes, the grease keeps dripping from the prize; Though he's truly "up the pole", he's slipping further from the goal!'. SL.

    Comedy; editorial; art.
