Titles read: "LONDON - CHURCH LODGES EX-PRISONERS".

    Kensington.

General view of interior shot of the Golborne Road Free Congregational Church; camera pans up to show ex-prisoners' washing strung across line. Ex-prisoners rising from their beds in the higher parts of the church and getting dressed. The Reverend Bertram Peake working at typewriter and he pauses to think. Ex-prisoners lining up for their morning cup of tea at the kitchen in the Deacon's vestry.

We see a newly-released prisoner leaving Wormwood Scrubs jail. He is met by another ex-prisoner and they go to the Golborne Free Church to meet the Rev Peake. Natural sound as the Reverend asks their names and says they can stay at the church for a bed and a meal, free of charge, but asks their objective. One says he's looking for a job and somewhere to stay. (It looks very cold in the church - we can see their breath as they speak!)

Two former prisoners and their fiancees leave the church and walk down the road. A Kensington Borough Councillor brings some clothes to the church for the men staying there. The Reverend Peake holds a bible class around the bed of one of the men; others sit and listen. The Reverend sits down to dinner with the men and they say grace. Natural sound as the Reverend says "Well, some of you chaps have been here quite a time, you have jobs and you're getting on your feet. This alone justifies our work here. I'm sure that you newcomers can do the same. After that it's up to you. May God bless you and us in our efforts".
