    Castleton, Derbyshire.

    78 year old Bert Marrison is the last craftsman to make rope traditionally.

    Shots of an entrance to a cave, 'Peak Cavern'. Inside the cave, Bert stretches twine between two wooden posts. Various shots of the rope making process - all by hand! He is making a tow rope from hemp. Bert turns a handle to bind three strands of rope. M/S icicles hanging from cave ceiling. A younger man helps Bert by turning a wheel to plait the three strands. Shots of derelict rope making machines - remnants of an age when rope making was a thriving industry.
