In West Hartlepool, Cleveland, we see men and children gathering coal that has been washed up onto the seashore. The men gather the coal up with rakes and pile it into sacks and buckets. One man puts two sacks on his bicycle and wheels it off up to the sea front. (Could be used for poverty & unemployment).
In Sunderland we see strongman Samson Bessford demonstrate his strength by eating glass and bending an iron bar with his teeth. Then two teams of men pull both ends of a rope that is wound around Samson's neck, attempting to strangle him - ugh! Samson's neck is apparently strong enough to withstand this test, although he unfastens it pretty quickly! Then we see Samson holding bricks on top of his head while men break them with hammers - there is barely a reaction from the strongman.
