GV. Pan, the five thousand metres race in progress with the Russian No 1 leading, Derek Ibbotson and Gordon Pirie running, Russian runner Peter Bolotnikov and another Russian running last. SV. Judges with watches. SV. Towards and passed, Bolotnikov leading, followed by Ibbotson and Pirie, only about a yard between each of the runners. GV. Massed crowds. GV. Into the back straight. Ibbotson storms passed the Russians followed by Pirie. GV. Crowds. GV. Coming round the last bend with Ibbotson and Pirie out in front of the Russians. Pirie comes up on outside of Ibbotson to take the lead into the straight while Ibbotson keeps a careful eye on the Russians. Pirie going forward alone. LV. Towards, Pirie coming to break tape followed by Ibbotson and Russian follows. Last Russian has disappeared from view. SCU. Gordon Pirie.

LV. Pan of the eight hundred metres women's race going down the back straight with Diane Leather hanging on to the two Russians. GV. Crowds applauding. GV. Panning shot to the last bend and Diane Leather comes up on the outside of the two Russian runners. She battles with them into straight and starts to gain. GV. Towards, Diane Leather coming into break the tape. Russian athlete No 3 follows. CU. Diane Leather.

SV. Miss Tyshkevitch preparing to put the weight. She throws the weight. This girl weighs 17 stone. GV. Crowds. GV. Soviet athlete Vladimir Kuts, No 1, just behind Russian No 3, Zhukov, and he starts to take up the lead as camera pans with him - this is 10,000 metres race. GV. Pan, George Knight running on his own trying to catch Kuts. SV. Knigth passes Kuts. SV. Pan, Kuts running out on his own. SV. Pan, Knight lying just behind the other Russian Zhukov as they run along. GV. Massed crowds. SV. Towards, Kuts coming home and breaking the tape. CU. Kuts jumping about now wearing his track suit.

SV. Starter firing gun at start of 800 metres race. SV. Towards and passed as the contestants start running. Pan to back view. GV. Massed crowds. GV. Pan as they go down coming into last bend. Michael Rawson leading and Farrell starts to overtake Russian No 1 into the last bend. Rawson and Farrell leading pan with Rawson as he breaks the tape. CU. Mike Rawson.
