    Engineers start drilling for oil in England after petroleum soaked rocks are found. Panning shot of oil drilling works. C/U of man - he makes a speech explaining the machinery about to be started will test ground for existence of oil.

    Mrs. Cruikshank, mother of the secretary for mines, turns the wheel to start the machinery. Various shots of piston sinking oil wheel into ground. Various shots of machinery in motion and the large tower above the well. Lots of dignitaries and journalists crowd around, eager to look at machinery. We see lots of muddy liquid being pumped out of the well - unfortunately no oil!
