BOAC Comet 11 leaves for South America - London Airport.
C/U of Sir Miles Thomas making a speech (natural sound) to camera with Transport Minister AT Lennox-Boyd standing beside him. He says that this is the first civil British jet aircraft to cross the Atlantic and talks of cutting the time from London to Lisbon considerably, then flying on to Dakar, Recife and to Rio de Janeiro in something like sixteen flying hours. He hopes to be able to influence sales of British Comet to Pan Brazil, the Brazilian airline. He says they hope to be back in London in less than a week, coming back through Natal, Dakar, Casablanca, Madrid and hopes that they will help the Minister's great work in developing civil aviation in this country.
AT Lennox-Boyd thanks Sir Miles and talks of the pride they have in the Comet and BOAC, and how much they owe De Havillands for the work they have done. He says "God speed to all of you today" and talks of this being the forerunner of regular services across the Atlantic.
