    Pan up from road surface to deserted Platz and Brandenburg Gate. MS Pan US Senator Democrat Hubert Humphrey (later US Vice-President from 1965-1969) visiting West Berlin during the Berlin crisis, with Brandenburg Gate in background. (2 shots). Various shots, Lebanese demonstrator who carries a large cross on his back bearing the words "Humanity", he is turned back by East German police. MS & LS The "Humanity" cross laid against the barbed wire barrier in front of Brandenburg gate.

    MS Along the dividing wall marked out with large concrete blocks. Various shots, young West Berliners throwing smoke bombs and stones across the barbed wire boundary at East German guards. MS East German workers, starting work on the Berlin Wall, stand around behind the barrier fence. LS Watch turret belonging to East Berlin.

    Various shots, East German workers building the dividing wall by using giant breeze blocks. MS An elderly woman waves from open window. Various shots, crane lowering huge concrete blocks into place. MS Rear view, police or guards standing on back of truck. MS Letters: "KZ" painted on wall. Various shots of mobile crane which has its windscreen shattered by stones. MS Roof of building in the Bernauerstrasse, pan down 6 storeys to pavement where two jars filled with flowers commemorate the place where a young man jumped to freedom but missed the safety sheet and was killed. He was trying to join his parents in West Berlin. MS Two West Berlin women leave more flowers. LS Soldier in window of building pan down to flowers on pavement.

    LS Crowd gathered on the banks of the River Spree with wreaths to commemorate deaths of two East Berlin youths who tried to swim River Spree. (One was shot, the other died of a heart attack in the icy water.) CU & MS Wreaths. MS East Berlin motorboat speeds past camera, patrolling River Spree.

    Note: Date on original paperwork: 09/10/1961. Contemporary notes record that "KZ" was an abbreviation for 'East Berlin concentration camp'.
