Beautiful Legs Contest at Palisades Park, New Jersey in United States of America.

    American newsreel item with commentary.

L/S as judges walk round a circle of women's legs waving in the air. It looks quite funny - the girls are all lying under some black cloth - looks like an outdoor rehearsal for a Busby Berkley routine!

Several shots of girls in swimsuits with pillowcases over their heads and torsos walking onto platform. The pillowcases are there so the judges are not tempted to look at the girls' faces - they have eye holes cut out so they can see where they're going!

Eighteen-year-old Lorraine Albrecht is declared the winner, and she pulls off her pillowcase to show off her lovely figure and blonde hair. The crowd applauds. A man hands her a scroll - her prize is a modelling scholarship.

Verbal warfare at its best. Here are some of history's greatest retorts and snarling insults. These people certainly didn't mince their words!
