Subtitle to main title reads: Palm Beach on Thames. "Ambling along the Thames one day, our Cameraman was attracted by sounds of feminine laughter and song. Being inquisitive (photographically speaking, of course) he landed...and this is what he saw."
A group of girls run towards the camera arm in arm. They wear bathing suits, swimming hats, capes etc. They run to the river's edge and jump in. The girls frolic in the water, some sit on the edge dangling their feet. They splash each other. "They were Jean Rai and the Athos Beauties from the New Princes' enjoying a break from the show." M/S of some of the girls passing by the riverbank on a boat whilst others sit around on the grass.
Palm trees in the foreground. "The word "Beauties" upset our Cameraman entirely. He couldn't turn enough film on them. He stopped the boat - " L/S of some girls on the boat and some in the water. "- he made the Dodge Twins land - " M/S of the Dodge Twins in bathing suits and capes playing with a dog on the river bank. C/U of one of the twins displaying her ornate Chinese effect cape to the camera. "- and then another dainty bathing costume and cloak met his eye - and the camera's (They were worn by Jean Rai)." Jean poses for the camera, holding her cape out to reveal a bathing suit which seems to have an appliquéd champagne bottle motif. The cape matches. (Instruction on the neg reads: "Insert pink here" so perhaps next section was tinted or toned.) "But, dancing or dining - these take the palm from the beach - " A row of girls dangle their legs in the water whilst sitting on a boat.
Note: paper records cite this as being from Pathe Pictorial 266 - however, this is definitely an Eve's Film Review item as the name of the reel is written on the opening title.
Very nice footage of young "flappers" having fun.
