    Battlefield.

    MS French soldiers in trench; 1 steps between 2 others & ducks down into dugout. Pan upwards; coat hangs on spike in the sloping wall of trench. Helmet lies on ground by trench. MS 3 soldiers at machine gun position; crouched on slope just behind ridge in dry rocky hills / piles of rubble and bombed up dirt; pan right, another soldier stands in background between piles. Very brief. CU German (?) soldier lying on side in grass (maybe shooting?). 2 French soldiers walking through piles & craters. Pan looking over these piles to explosions in distance. CU French soldiers and German prisoners of war walking through trenches and dugouts.
