C/U of a middle aged man smoking a pipe holding a suction pad to his head - this is a contraption it is claimed will cure baldness. It is called the "Trichosan Treatment". He moves the pad around on his head. He is Mr Harry Billenness (Billenes?) - a member of the "Curly Boys Club" who meet several times a week in an attempt to win the battle of the receding hairline.
Various shots of other men who are using this strange device. One man sits reading a copy of Picture Show magazine and operating the device with a hand pump, others operate the device with a foot pump. C/U of the President of the club Tony Voitechovsky applying lotion to the bald pate of a man who sits beside him. There are "before and after" photographs of balding men on the wall behind them. C/U of an "on - off" switch which operates the pump. Tony switches it on and applies it to the bald man's head. The device is a powerful suction cone. When it is taken off the guys head you can see where it has stretched his scalp up - youch!
Good C/Us of the suction device being applied and of Tony concentrating on his work. More lotion is applied. Harry looks in a small mirror and the narrator quips: "When a woman looks at herself in a mirror, you can bet she's prompted by vanity, but when one of the Curly Boys peers at himself, well, he's merely making a critical examination of a scientific experiment." C/U of Harry feeling around for extra hair. Another member of the club Jack Grummet (Grummit?) is seen in C/U using a less powerful hand pump to tone up the scalp before relaxing under the rays of an ultra violet lamp. Tony fixes the lamp above his head. He looks through a magnifying glass to check the hair. He caresses Jack's new hair growth! C/U of another club member who is operating the suction cone with a foot pump. Tony's trusty dog ("Shaggy"!) sits beside him. C/U of Harry as in opening shot - still persevering. Narrator (Eamonn / Eamon Andrews) ends with a sarcastic "Keep your hair on!"
Note: newspaper clipping and letter from Tony Voitechovsky about his techniques in CP 030 documentation file - fabulous! Check with version on CP 030 - there may be minor differences. See separate explanation record for CP 001: 'International Pictorials'.
