Footage from 0:14 to 0:29 comes from the P-51 Mustang of Lt. Sherman Armsby, of the 375th Fighter Squadron. The material shows him bringing down one of the three enemy fighters he destroyed on that day, 20 July 1944.

The footage from 0:33 to 1:25 come from the P-51 Mustang of Bill Kemp, also of the 375th Fighter Squadron.

From 1:29 to 2:01 we see footage from the plane of Robert M Leidy of the 360th Fighter Squadron on 28th July 1944. He was sadly killed in action on 9th September 1944.

From 2:05 to 2:27, we see material from the plane of Duane Larson of the 339th Fighter Squadron.

At 3:39 the material switches from being aerial footage to film shot of American aircraft on the ground.

"Good M/S as Mustang P51 taxis to a halt. C/U pilot of plane, he holds up 6 fingers to show how many he has shot down today" - this footage shows the top Mustang pilot of WWII, George Preddy Jr, in his plane "Cripes A Mighty 3rd". On 6th August he brought down 6 German aircraft in a single sortie, to which his hand gesture in this film refers, with this particular footage being shot the following day. He was sadly killed in action on December 25th 1944.

"Various shots of soldiers looking at material and straps on wooden posts in underground room" - this footage relates to the discovery of a Gestapo torture chamber in Paris. This footage forms part of clip 1123.23, which gives a full report on the chamber.

Footage from 05:48 - 09:03 is of the RAF raid by Mosquitos of No. 140 Wing on the Chateau de Trevarez, Brittany, France on the 30th July 1944. The chateau was a rest facility for U-Boat crews and although the narrator in the YouTube version here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKt_SQuqQug states that the raid was successful, it is now known that no crews were present on the morning of the raid.

BP - please re-run the footage so that it correctly inverted.

    Thanks,

    Pat Curran
