    An 18-year-old hero - Private Chafer, 1st East Yorks Regiment, who won VC for carrying important messages under shell fire although wounded - 1916.

    Location of events unknown.

    Homecoming scene: mother standing outside family home; by steps; Pvt. C. comes out of house & down steps; walking with cane; accompanied by another young man (teenage brother?). Alone; he walks a few steps into front yard; sits down in a wicker chair; crosses his legs; opens newspaper; smiling. Just the picture of rest and relaxation. Leisure.

    Major change of scene: GV from raised position looking over courtyard in front of huge cathedral. A very formal procession coming out doors. Pomp; ritual; ceremony.
