EDUCATION

Children, who often made up a large part of Pathe's audience, were regularly featured in various amusing items about schools.

These items make up the majority of "education" stories.

The subject list is endless: International Schools, Farm Schools, a school with a portable swimming pool in a classroom, circus schools, a school with its own bank, a school with its own radio station, naval schools, girls schools, boys schools, music schools, schools being opened, German schools, flying schools, Austrian schools, a school with its own mini road system, "camp" schools for refugees, French schools, Egyptian schools, "beatnik" schools, progressive schools, exhibitions for schools, Scottish schools, sailing schools, dancing schools, public schools, comprehensive schools, stage schools, a children's driving school, a school with a playground atlas, mountain schools, dancing schools, schools that made their own films, schools with theatres, outward bound schools, open air schools, schools with gardening classes, ski schools, nursery schools, gypsy schools, Sunday schools, craft schools, a Welsh school with four pupils, prefab schools, school choirs, school orchestras…

Pathe also made a large number of educational films that were shown in schools.

Coverage of Universities tended to concentrate on the awarding of Honorary Degrees, Degree Day Celebrations and the obligatory Rag Week antics.

There are also many stories covering the opening of new universities and the laying of Foundation Stones.

Inter University sport is also covered in great depth, particularly Varsity events including rowing, athletics, hockey, rugby, cricket and even skiing!
