The British Pathe Stills Archive contains over 12 million digital images.

To find a specific subject you can use either the Basic or Advanced Search and then preview the items found in storyboard form. Each minute of our original film can be previewed at a rate of up to one still image per second by using the options in the relevant Pop Up window.

You can then preview a particular still by clicking on it to open a new window. If you want to save this image on your PC simply "right click" on it and follow the instructions on the screen.

This window will also give you the option to purchase a "clean" higher resolution copy of the image for private use. These cost £25.00 + VAT each. Before doing this it is advisable to enlarge the screen further by clicking on the image again in order check the print quality of the image.

If you wish to extend the reproduction rights in the image for other media an additional licence must be agreed with ITN Source

You are also, of course, liable for any third party clearances.

All the images were originated from 35mm "half frames" and have been digitally enhanced to comply with a printing standard of 300dpi at about Post Card size (5" x 4").

Some samples have been posted on the right which are half the resolution of these "master" files.
