Prince of Wales tour of South Africa - Part 11.

"The Prince's tour of South Africa ended where it had begun - at Cape Town, where the guns of the Repulse greeted him as he left the landing stage." M/S of sailors firing gun from the Repulse. L/S of the Repulse at sea. High angled shots of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII / Duke of Windsor) boarding the Repulse. "Princess Alice and the Earl of Athlone had come on board to bid the Prince farewell and Godspeed."

High angle shots of the group on the deck. Various shots of activity on the deck. "The guns of the South African Squadron roared a salute as the Repulse swung out of the Bay - en route for St Helena." L/Ss of South African battleships in the distance firing gun salute. C/U of the Prince's standard flying on top of mast. Similar shots. :several days later the lonely little island loomed in sight." L/S of the island. Good M/S of sailor leaning on railings of the Repulse. L/S Several shots of cliffs (Unfortunately it is very difficult to read the intertitles in the distance). Shots of crew member on deck laying anchor.

L/Ss of buildings in distance. "While awaiting the arrival of the Prince the islanders were regaled with music from the ship's band." Shots (very dark) of people on the shore. L/S of the Prince's boat coming ashore. He is greeted by two men in ambassador type uniform. "The Prince received his official welcome on lower parade. L/S of the Prince's horse drawn carriage passing under bunting. L/S of the Prince and officials saluting. A Group of women watch the proceedings. L/S of Prince standing on platform. The Prince entering large castle and greeting the governor of the island. Several shots of the Prince and party. The Prince comes out of castle and climbs aboard horse drawn carriage.

M/S of some miserable looking donkeys walking slowly past camera in street scene. "The great Napoleon passed his last years on the island - a prisoner. The house in which he lived and died still stands." Several shots of the small building. Shots of the Prince standing next to the tomb of Napoleon. L/S of French flag flying over the tomb. M/S of Prince drinking from well which Napoleon often drank from. "The position of Jamestown hemmed in by lofty hills - makes it a difficulty place yo get out of." High angle shot of Jamestown in the middle of a valley.

L/Ss of the people walking up numerous steps (apparently the only way out of the town). "It takes 20 minutes to climb - but, if you follow the example of the native, you can descend quickly enough !" L/S of man sliding down the railings of the steps. L/S and M/Ss of girls sitting out in street making lace (some nice footage). L/S of the island from the Repulse as the ship departs.
