    News in a Nutshell.

    Footage from September 1935 of Air Minister Sir Samuel Hoare on an airfield making a speech. He says they are all out for peace and carrying out obligations under the League of Nations but still want to be on good terms with their friends the Italians. The narrator announces he has now resigned after universal criticism of Anglo-French peace proposals. C/U of Sir Samuel.

    Rome, Italy. L/S of Tivoli (?) regiment stood to attention, various shots of the division which is made up of students and sons of Italian aristocracy. Various shots as King Victor Emmanuel and Crown Prince Umberto inspect them before they are sent to fight in Africa. Various shots as they march past.

    London. Animals arrive for circus performance. M/S as men haul a cage from a ship. M/S's of tigers and lions in small cages. M/S as a crate is swung across, an elephant backs out of the hold onto the dock. Various shots of the elephants walking along.

    Derbyshire. M/S of Prince George, Duke of Kent, getting out of his car and shaking hands with an official. He is on a tour of social service centres for the unemployed in the area. M/S as he enters Newmills club, M/S of a man whittling a wooden model he is making. M/S as the Duke enters the People's Social Club at Chesterfield. M/S as he walks along and people watch and wave. M/S as he tours Derby and shakes hands with the public. M/S of cakes on a table. M/S as he emerges from a house.

    England. L/S as the camera pans across picturesque snow covered countryside, a car drives along a road. M/S of trees and buildings covered in snow, a policeman directs traffic. Good M/S of children running and sliding down a hill from school. M/S as they roll a big ball of snow to make a snowman, then throw snowballs at each other. A lady gives a snowball to her little girl who looks delighted and throws it in the air. Various shots as people sledge down a hill. One girl skis down but falls at the bottom. M/S as a boy pulls his dog on a sledge.

    London. M/S as students from the Royal College of Art present their tableau for the Chelsea Arts Ball. The theme is the bronze age and the float has a big block of bronze and girls wearing skimpy bronze coloured costumes. However it is very cold, good C/U of a girl laughing and rubbing herself to try and keep warm. M/S as all the students cheer.

    London. L/S of postal workers in a large warehouse preparing for Christmas and unloading lots of parcels. The action is speeded up to show how manic the Christmas rush can be.

    Tasmania, Australia. M/S of some of the 300 dead whales stranded on the beach. A boat sails past. M/S as people inspect them. Various shots as oxen are driven down to the beach where they tow the whales away to be buried in trenches in the sand. Various shots as they are towed away. Very sad. M/S of the one surviving whale, they push him out to sea and he begins to swim.

    Note: the item 'White Turkeys for Christmas' is missing from this edition.
