Life before health and safety laws. Men had to earn money to provide for their families and our gallery shows the extraordinary dangers construction workers went to in order to earn a crust. With no ropes, no harnesses and no safety nets, these men worked at huge heights, balancing on girders and cranes all in order to help build the world's tallest skyscrapers.
