The centrepiece event of Britain's most famous racecourse and Europe's best-attended race meeting. This year Royal Ascot has made the news with their strict enforcement of a newly moderated dress code. Strongly connected with the Royal Family it is no surprise that British Pathe filmed a lot of Royal Ascot days. Here some of our favourite snapshots of Royal Ascot in the 1960s.
Ladies in lilac
A popular Royal Ascot shade, lilac, which in the 1960s was acceptable to match with pink and a pair of gently tinted glasses.
You wouldn't be allowed inside the Royal enclosure wearing a dress that short these days.
