We've searched the British Pathe archive to find beautiful still images from our newsreels and cinemagazines of The Queen in her youth. See the story of Her Majesty's early years, her time in the Girl Guides, learning to horse-ride and even her first broadcast aged fourteen.
The Braemar Highland Games
At the age of four Elizabeth was taken by her parents to the Braemar Highland Games where she watched the Tug-of-War and Tossing the Caber, hotly contested events that one day she would award the prizes for. Who could have known then that the Duke and Duchess would become King and Queen, let alone their little daughter Elizabeth in turn.
The Queen still presents the prizes at the Braemar Games today, and The Queen Mother continued to do so until her death in 2001.
