Born Sofia Villani Scicolone on the 20th of September, 1934, Loren won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Two Women, becoming the first actress to win an Academy Award for a non-English-speaking performance. She went on to win countless other accolades including seven Golden Globes, The Legion of Honour from the Republic of France, the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and the Praemium Imperiale by the Imperial Family of Japan.
