The Oscars Used to Award Films from the Last Two Years

The first six ceremonies of the Academy Awards celebrated films from the previous two years. In fact, the very first Oscar winner was Emil Jannings (above) who won the Best Actor award for two films in consecutive years, The Last Command (1928) and The Way of the Flesh (1927).
