Another thrifty summer for Britain means that many of us will be making do with our own chalky shores for amusement. Yet not that long ago, before package holiday culture came into place, most of us had a ball at British holiday camps. Hopefully this gallery will get you in the mood for some good old classic camping, English-style!
Across the pond
The monorail that took holidaymakers from the car park to the main site was a huge success and so Butlins opened more of them. This one's in Minehead. The 40-seater trains have now been demolished along with the rails too sadly.
