The entertainment industry has always had a start 'em young mentality, be it Britney Spears or Justin Bieber. But before that the limelight often fell on actual children - child stars. Ask anyone to name a child star and they will most likely say Shirley Temple or Judy Garland. But what about the others, the children whose fame found no longevity?
70 years before Tom Daley there was Freddie Hodges, and he was actually a younger Olympian than Daley by about ten months. Aged thirteen, Freddie was a spring board champion and an Olympic competitor to be reckoned with.

British Pathe went to film Freddie at Finchley swimming pool in North London. The footage includes some great slow motion shots, although is part of a cinemagazine so you have to rifle through some bizarre zookeeper footage first! Take a look:
