It's incredible to think how young Elizabeth was when she became The Queen, and without any time to greave personally it seems she just threw herself into the role of Queen - a real natural leader!

A small crowd gathers outside the gates of Sandringham Palace where the King passed away in his sleep.

His father, King George V, died in the same building in 1936 when a large crowd gathered outside after dark to pay their respects, as seen in this British Pathe newsreel:
