Child of Hiroshima
A symbol of hope and a symbol of a new and modern Japan.
On a beautiful, sunny morning of 6 August 1945, an American B29 Bomber plane, Enola Gay, emerged above they skies of Hiroshima. There a gravity bomb called Little Boy was dropped on to the city below. It was estimated that 145,000 were killed. Dozens of babies who were in their mother wombs at the time of the bomb were born with abnormally small heads and over the next decades cases of leukaemia and cancers soared.
